Sony Ericsson has announced plans to extend its mobile Java Platform on to its entry 3G mobile phone portfolio. The move means that games, applications and content developers can now target their offerings at entry-level 3G consumers.
Sony Ericsson says it has enjoyed significant success with feature-rich 3G phones. It adds that transferring this fully developed platform into cost-efficient 3G devices will be an important element of its business strategy, particularly with regards to targeting growth in key emerging markets such as China, as they roll-out new 3G networks. The company says its aim is to grow its share of the 3G Java phone market, as the JP 8.5 Java platform, with its rich feature support becomes available.
