Rummble, the real-time social discovery service, has acquired the UK-based wi-fi community, Total Hotspots.
Total Hotspots Managing Director Alex Housley will join Rummble's founding team as VP Business, to help drive service development and key partnerships. Total Hotspots was created by Housley in 2004, while studying Business and Computing at City University, London.
Total Hotspots offers a wi-fi discovery application for the iPhone that tells users where the nearest paid and free hotspots are around the world, ans also provides personalised recommendations for those venues. Rummble and Total Hotspots partnered to launch an iPhone hotspot locator app in January 2009, utilising Rummble's mobile platform and a database of global wi-fi hotspots. To celebrate the acquisition, Total Hotspots is reducing the price of its iPhone app from £2.99 to £0.59 over Christmas.
“Alex has grown Total Hotspots from zero to profit and brings a multi-disciplined skillset to the Rummble,” says Rummble CEO, Andrew J Scott. “We've been working closely with him the last months and as Rummble grows, his energy will make a very significant contribution to Rummble going forward. You can expect to see some fantastic new wi-fi features and partnerships coming out of Rummble during 2010.”
