So There Is Someone at Home

News (at last) from the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC), the alliance of telcos announced with great fanfare at Mobile World Congress which was going to revolutionise the mobile applications market. Then after Barcelona, er, not much.
Obviously, these things don’t happen overnight, especially where 24 telcos are concerned. What annoyed me a bit was the fact that for a couple of months after MWC, the WAC seemed to consist of nothing more than a website with an info@ email address, that, if my experiences are anything to go by, redirected to a black hole.
We were planning a piece on the WAC for our next print issue, but given the wall of silence we met with from the organisation at the heart of it, we spiked it. But today, news reaches us that on 5 May, the WAC team will provide an update to media and industry analysts on the progress of the WAC initiative since launch via a webinar or conference call. And the word comes from a proper PR company with lots of clients in the mobile space.
So maybe now we will see some progress. But so far, it has to be said, the WAC has hardly covered itself in glory.
